Lt Gov Names DOS Volunteers Honorary Ambassadors; Rep Stokes to Issue HR Commendation

The Society of Louisiana CPAs (LCPA), will hold its first-ever CPA Day of Service this Friday, September 28. More than 350 volunteers throughout Louisiana will be sharing their time on this single, yet powerful day to collectively make communities better and safer places to live. LCPA’s Day of Service allows individuals, firms, and groups to join forces to give back to charitable organizations of their choice.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has named the CPA Day of Service volunteers as Honorary Louisiana Ambassadors to recognize their professionalism and commitment to service throughout the state of Louisiana.

Rep. Julie Stokes, who also is a CPA and LCPA member, will issue a Commendation from the House of Representatives in honor of the group's service to the families and citizens of Louisiana.

Other local government officials are issuing proclamations of their own to likewise recognize the Day of Service volunteers from their respective areas.

Here's what's happening in our chapters throughout the state:


Acadiana Chapter [Lafayette]

Members of LCPA's Acadiana Chapter will be working with Project Front Yard beautifying public areas around the city, at Lafayette Habitat for Humanity ReStore helping customers and arranging merchandise, and at Acadiana High teaching students about careers in accounting.

The 50 local volunteers participating in the event come from CPA firms and private companies, including Broussard Poche, LLP; Going Sebastien Fisher & LeBouef, LLP; LHC Group, Inc.; Norris CPA LLC; Postlethwaite & Netterville, APAC; Robin T LeBlanc, CPA, CGMA, LLC; Talos Petroleum, LLC; and The Picard Group.

Mayor-President Joel Robideaux, who also is a CPA and LCPA member, will present a proclamation to LCPA Acadiana Chapter President Scott Hayes to honor the group's service to the citizens of Lafayette.

Baton Rouge Chapter

Members of LCPA's Baton Rouge Chapter will be helping 14 area nonprofits including Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Mid City Redevelopment Alliance, Capital Area United Way, Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge, CASA, Big Buddy, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and more.

Central Chapter [Alexandria]

Members of LCPA's Central Louisiana Chapter's will be assisting The Food Bank of Central Louisiana which distributes food and grocery products to needy families, and Hope House of Central Louisiana which provides safe transitional housing and essential services to the homeless, empowering them to independence.

The 30 local volunteers come from CPA firms, private companies, and universities including Daenen Henderson & Company, LLC; Kolder, Slaven & Co, LLC; Louisiana College; LSU of Alexandria; Payne, Moore & Herrington, LLP; RoyOMartin; and Virtual Partner Advantage.

Mayor Jacques Roy will issue a proclamation in honor of the group's service to the citizens of Alexandria.

Lake Charles Chapter

Members of LCPA's Lake Charles Chapter will be at The Gardens & The Guardian House bringing elderly residents joy and entertainment in the afternoon with a Happy Hour Bingo.

The 11 local volunteers participating in the event come from local CPA firms and private companies, including Gates & Company, LLC; Langley, Williams & Company, LLC; Laura C Hendrickson, CPA, LLC; Home Furniture Co Inc.; McElroy, Quirk & Burch APC; and Steven M DeRouen & Associates.

Mayor Nic Hunter will present a proclamation to LCPA Lake Charles Chapter President-Elect Sarah Meche to honor the group's service to the citizens of Lake Charles.

New Orleans Chapter

Members of LCPA's New Orleans Chapter will be helping Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans in the community kitchen preparing children's meals for its after-school Kids Cafe program, as well as assisting 11 other service projects with nonprofits throughout the Greater New Orleans area.

The 77 local volunteers come from CPA firms, private companies, government agencies, and universities, including Bourgeois Bennett, L.L.C.; Delta Pacific, Inc.; Jessica D LeBlanc, CPA, LLC; Laporte CPAs & Business Advisors; LCPA; Louisiana Legislative Auditor; Louisiana State University; Ochsner Health System; Pool Corporation; Postlethwaite & Netterville; PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLP; SUNO; and UNO Beta Alpha Psi.

Rep. Julie Stokes, who also is a CPA and LCPA member, will be on hand to issue a Commendation from the House of Representatives in honor of the group's service to the families and citizens of Louisiana.

Northeast Chapter [Monroe]

Members of LCPA's Northeast Louisiana Chapter will be helping the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana with their “Backpack for Kids” Program, which distributes 850 “backpacks” (bags) of food to kids throughout the Parish, who without the food provided by the program, may have gone hungry over the weekend. Local volunteers participating in the event come from local CPA firms, private companies, nonprofits, and universities.

Mayor Jamie Mayo will be on hand to present a proclamation to LCPA NE Chapter President Drew Pendarvis to honor the group's service to the city and children of Monroe.

Northshore Chapter [Hammond]

Members of LCPA's Northshore Chapter will be assisting LynHaven Retreat in Hammond which provides shelter, training, ministry and love to women who have been abused. In addition to rehabilitation the women will learn job skills to have a self-sustaining, bright future. Volunteers will be collecting supplies and performing needed facility upkeep.

The 10 local volunteers come from local CPA firms, private companies, including Allen & Baxter (APAC); Cantium, LLC; Entergy Services, Inc.; Globalstar, Inc.; Gwen L Bolotte CPA LLC; Louisiana Department of Revenue; and Resource Bank. Lunch for volunteers will be provided by Resource Bank.

Mayor Pete Panepinto will issue a proclamation in honor of the group's service to the citizens of Hammond.

Shreveport Chapter

Members of LCPA's Shreveport Chapter are partnering with Junior Achievement of North Louisiana to educate and inspire students all 228 students at E.B. Stoner Hill Elementary about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Students spend one school day participating in age-appropriate JA activities that help them understand the meaningful connections between education, career, salary and desired.

The 25 local volunteers participating in the event come from local CPA firms and private companies including Citizens National Bank; Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana; Heard, McElroy & Vestal, LLP; jweinland Group Benefits; Morris & Dickson Co LLC; and RBM LLP.

Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler will issue a proclamation to honor the group's service. Shreveport CAO Brian Crawford will present the proclamation to LCPA Shreveport Chapter President David Watters on Friday at 8:00 am.

South Central Chapter [Houma]

Members of LCPA's South Central Louisiana Chapter will be assisting MacDonell Children’s Services in their efforts to provide residential housing for children whose circumstances leave them in need of a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. Volunteers will be performing needed facility upkeep.

The 19 local volunteers come from CPA firms, private companies, including Bourgeois Bennett, CPAs and Consultants; Buquet Distributing Company; GB Sciences Louisiana, LLC; Laporte CPAs & Business Advisors; Malcolm M Dienes, LLC; Michael J. Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove will present a proclamation to LCPA Chair Kandace Mauldin at the September 26 Parish Council Meeting to honor the group's service to the children of Terrebonne.
