When stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong, casual conversations become crucial. When we fail a crucial conversation, every aspect of our lives can be affected-from careers, to relationships, to personal health. If we cannot talk honestly we can expect poor results. This session will provide skills to step-up to controversial and heated issues in a way that makes it safe for everyone to speak.

Mentoring relationships are vital to employee growth. They help develop employees and the organization, provide an opportunity to share knowledge and expertise, and assist employees in achieving their career goals. But how do you adapt these relationships to fit with today’s technologies and changing work environments? We will look at how to build a successful mentoring program (formal and informal), responsibilities of mentors and protégés, and provide practical tips for beginning, maintaining, and enhancing mentoring relationships in today’s workplace.

A major difference between high achieving leaders and those that are just average is the way they fail. In this session, we will dig deep into some of the most famous cases of failure, response, and rebound. I will mix in some personal stories of people I’ve known over the years that have failed and moved forward in a way that only enhanced their credibility and impact as leaders. John Maxwell’s Failing Forward provides a lot of guidance for this session.

A large percentage of women professionals will “off ramp” or exit the workforce sometime in their careers, representing a loss of resources for their employers. Building an effective off-ramping program is all about keeping those off-ramped employees engaged so that their intent always is to return to the workforce and specifically, to your organization. This presentation is designed to help organizations consider their options for building and delivering off-ramping programs.

After 31 years with the organization, Dawn was named CEO of Campus Federal Credit Union in 2013. With branches in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, $550M in assets, it's one of the largest local financial institutions in the state. Through the years, she has implemented various culture-building and leadership development programs and is now honored to say that 50% of the company’s executive management team is female, and 60% of the corporate management group are women.

Donna Salter • Senior Manager, Young Member Initiatives – AICPA • Durham, NC

Donna’s responsibilities include managing the AICPA’s very successful Leadership Academy and cultivating best practices throughout various channels to foster young member engagement. Before joining the AICPA, Donna was responsible for training program development and delivery for more than 2,000 employees within a private industry organization. Her experience also includes 25 years as director of professional development at the Utah Association of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

Melisa Galasso, CPA • Galasso Learning Solutions LLC
Charlotte, NC

With nearly 15 years of experience in the accounting profession, Melisa designs and facilitates courses in advanced technical accounting and auditing topics, including not-for-profit and governmental accounting. She also supports essential professional development, public speaking, and business skills. Melisa is a member of and award-winning instructor for the AICPA, the North Carolina Association of CPAs, and the Virginia Society of CPAs.

Joseph Rugger, CPA, CGMA • CFO — Jonesboro Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratory • Jonesboro, AR

In addition to his role with JP&O, Joseph serves as a discussion leader for the AICPA, several state CPA societies, and dozens of other organizations talking on the topic of personal finance, time management, negotiating, and body language. He also hosted a weekly radio show in Little Rock on KABF 88.3 FM called “Get in the Financial Know with Joe” for 2 years. Joseph currently serves on the board for the Arkansas Society of CPAs, was named the 2011 Outstanding Emerging CPA by the Arkansas Society of CPAs, and is a member of the AICPA’s EDGE Conference Planning Committee. 

Lindsay Stevenson, CPA, CGMA • VP Finance — 1st Financial Bank USA • Dakota Dunes, SD

Lindsay is a CPA in Arizona and South Dakota and is active in both state societies. Her love for volunteering extends to the AICPA as well where she is the Vice Chair of the Young Members Leadership Committee, sits on the Depository Institution Expert Panel and participated in the Firm in Motion Task Force. Lindsay is a 2015 graduate of the AICPA’s Leadership Academy and has spoken at the AICPA Practitioners Tech Plus Conference and the AICPA EDGE Experience, which she also helps to plan as a member of the EDGE Experience Planning Task Force. Lindsay has a passion for innovation and promoting women within the profession. 

Julie Laperouse • Chief Peacock – Screaming Peacock • Baton Rouge, LA

Julie Laperouse has been screaming all her life, but made it a profession in 2008 founding her company Screaming Peacock, where she delivers high-energy speeches and trainings to help you “put their best feather forward.” Julie has worked with organizations ranging from Nissan North America and the Society of Association Executives to various sororities and Junior Leagues. When she’s not screaming, Julie runs the talent development program at the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and hosts a DIY segment on WBRZ Channel 2. Her husband would say she enjoys over-scheduling, starting projects she doesn’t have time to finish, and teaching her 4 children how to use credit cards.
