Lagniappe Session
Excel: Budgeting & Reporting Tools
Heather MacCallum • NCSG Crane & Heavy Haul Services • Edmonton, Alberta

From simple to complex, Excel can provide solutions that streamline the budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes while improving your ability to extract value from the information you prepare. Tasks that are routine, repetitive, or simply just data entry can be automated to reduce inefficient time and increase the speed with which you have insight into the financial foundations of the business. Time is money and information has value, two clichés that never get old. This session is targeted to provide an overview of a number of options of how Excel can speed up your financial reporting and improve your budget process.

8:00 – 8:50 am Legislative Update
Jim Harris • Harris, Deville & Associates, Inc. • Baton Rouge, LA
Jim will try to bring some clarity to a political landscape that has seen unprecedented changes and presents very little certainty at the moment. He'll review the state’s continuing financial budget shortfall and how the governor and the legislature have attempted to address it. Plus you'll get a preview of proposed legislation in the upcoming Regular Legislative Session that starts April 10 to get an idea of what may be in store for us in 2017 and beyond.
8:50 – 9:50 am Revenue Recognition: Are You Ready for the New Standard?

Wendy King, CCWS, MBA • HUB International Gulf South • Mandeville, LA

Our often sedentary lifestyles and jobs are costly for us and our employees. With the average American spending 7.7 hours of their day in a sedentary state, it's no wonder this health crisis has become national news. Join Wendy King, Director of Health & Performance with HUB International, as she details why sitting is so dangerous to our health, and the creative ways we as employers can change the course and get our employees up off their seats more often.

1:50 – 2:40 pm Peering Into Murky Waters: The Unknown Future for Retirement Plans
Chris Shankle, CPA, CGMA • Argent Financial Group, Inc. • Shreveport, LA
The year holds many changes and challenges for retirement plans and plan sponsors. We’ll take a look at what several current pressing issues hold: the new fiduciary rule (April 10, 2017), tax reform legislation, and other industry changes. Many of these topics are dynamic and fast moving, so expect the discussion to be very timely.
2:40 – 3:00 pm Break
3:00 – 4:20 pm Data Breach Live
John Farley, CIPP, AIC • HUB International Limited • New York, NY

Hosted by leading global insurance brokerage, HUB International, the "Data Breach Live" event is a unique opportunity to experience how a data breach occurs, and how easily hackers can penetrate a network. This will be a dynamic simulation of a series of cyber security incidents leading up to and including a data breach.

All demonstrations are based on similar cases that have occurred in the past, using real hacking programs and malware.

The audience will also learn ways to prevent a network intrusion and to mitigate the financial and reputational harm that could occur in the aftermath of a data breach.
