Since Louisiana has moved to Phase 3, we are moving forward with both an in-person and online option for attendees. All state and local mandates/guidelines will be followed, which means:

  • In-person registration will be limited to accommodate more space per person in accordance with social distancing guidelines.
  • Masks will be required.

We are closely monitoring the situation with the understanding that things could change quickly and could ultimately have to go all-virtual. In that case, all in-person registrants will be transferred to the virtual option. If you prefer to cancel, you will be given a full refund.

Blind Faith? The Misguided Search for Reasonable Compensation

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…the adjustment to reflect reasonable compensation for an owner/employee can be the single most important decision that a valuator makes. And yet we are content to (mis)use methodology and resources because, well, because that’s what everyone else does…or it’s what “so-and-so” said to do. Add to that the inherent problems associated with misunderstanding and misusing compensation surveys and you have a recipe for disaster…not to mention a visit from “big brother.” This presentation will provide an in-depth discussion of how to perform a thorough analysis, considering productivity, appropriate resources and duties. In addition, he will discuss the impact of recent tax reform on reasonable compensation. You will learn how to properly use compensation studies, determine reasonable compensation for key individuals, and assess the impact of compensation adjustments on the fair market value of a company.
