We’ll give you guidance to navigate new regulations, risks, and best practices. Plus, we’ll help you strike the right balance between management strategies that provide flexibility while still providing clear expectations and policies.

Coaching to Lead: Are You Coaching or Telling?

Melinda Stallings, MA, SHRM-SCP, CPPC • CEO – Melinda Stallings International • Baton Rouge, LA

When is an individual most compelled to take action on something? When it is something they value and it has importance to them. In this session, discover the importance of using real coaching practices in developing employees. Coaching is not about telling. It is about helping employees to discover their own meaning behind the importance of taking a necessary action and guiding them on paths unknown.

10:10 – 11:00 am

Cybersecurity Update

Les Nettleton • Bourgeois Bennett, LLC • New Orleans, LA

Addressing cybersecurity has changed significantly over the last 5 years. Attacks on your technology systems and Human Resources data have become more complex and are now focusing on ransom and financial fraud. While network penetration still must be addressed, we must also look at fake links, fraudulent emails, malicious websites, and even bogus phone calls and texting. This session will look at Social Engineering, the importance of a security training program, and why cybersecurity is more than just an IT responsibility. We will demonstrate how to identify and address email threats, ransomware, and scams.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Mentoring: Formal and Informal Programs

Erin Booth • Ernst and Young, LLP • New York, NY

This session will provide insight on a variety of different ways mentoring can be integrated into your organization, and how mentoring can impact your employee development and satisfaction. We’ll explore options on creating formal programs as well as how informal mentoring can be an impactful way to develop your talent.

12:00 – 12:50 pm Lunch
12:50 – 2:00 pm

Race, Politics, and Workplace Bullying: Effectively Managing Our Differences and Creating a Safe Workplace

Monique Doucette, JD • Ogletree Deakins • New Orleans, LA

In the wake of today’s turbulent political climate, employers are often challenged by incidents of bullying and growing tension at the workplace. This program will discuss how HR departments should address racial and political differences in the office. The program will also provide some practical advice on how to proactively avoid litigation and create a positive corporate culture.

2:00 – 2:50 pm

Winning the War for Talent

Helene Wall, SHRM-SCP • Postlethwaite & Netterville • Baton Rouge, LA

While winning this war is a critical business strategy, leadership cannot discount the importance of small victories along the way. By designing a recruitment strategy that replaces a "check the box" approach with one that seeks to find cultural fit and integrate employee goals with business objectives, employers CAN create the edge they need in securing and retaining top talent.

2:50 – 3:00 pm Break
3:00 – 4:20 pm

And the Beat Goes On: Labor Law Landmines — How to Avoid Stepping on Them!

Brooke Duncan III, JD • Partner – Adams & Reese, LLP • New Orleans, LA

Many of us assume we know what we can do and can’t do when it comes to labor law. The problem for employers is that too often they find after-the-fact that what they thought was ok was in fact not ok. This is particularly true for new supervisors and managers. Just because your predecessor or a past employer did something a particular way, doesn’t mean it’s the right way. Join this session to review key aspects of labor law—overtime rules, workplace discrimination/sexual harassment, marijuana at work, among other topics.
