Nonprofit Revenue Recognition and Leases: Are You Ready?

Michael “Mickey” Simon, CPA • LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors • Covington, LA

With the revenue recognition guidance changing under generally accepted accounting principles, your organization will need to analyze its revenue streams to determine the impact this change will have. Operational diversity among nonprofits means there is no single result for all organizations; however, all nonprofits should evaluate its potential impact. With the coming changes to leases, nonprofits will be moving operating leases from the footnotes to the statement of financial position. Both changes may be significant to an organization and require planning and increased effort.
