Optimize your impact.

Teaching accounting at the college level requires skill, talent, passion, and commitment. It’s a discipline of constantly changing information and technology, and as educators, you have a responsibility to stay current in the profession. To optimize the learning experience, educators must take into consideration short attention spans, technology distractions, student preparation challenges, and the unique traits and experiences of Gen Z. This workshop presents a broad range of experienced voices from inside and outside the classroom to help you meet the challenges of an ever-changing audience.

Accounting Education: An Overview of Best Practices From Research and Master Teachers

Professor Cynthia E. Bolt • Baker School of Business, The Citadel • Charleston, SC

Teaching accounting at the college level requires skill, talent, passion, and commitment. Ours is a discipline of constantly changing information and technology, and as educators we have a responsibility to stay current in the profession. To optimize the learning experience, educators must take into consideration short attention spans, technology distractions, student preparation challenges and unique Generation Z characteristics. Online classes present another layer of complications. Research studies, conferences, books, and websites provide instructors with endless (and yet overwhelming!) material to assist in the improvement of teaching. This session will discuss best practices from research, and advice from award-winning master teachers to enhance the learning experience for the accounting student and increase the instructor’s effectiveness.

9:50 – 10:40 am

Disruptive Technologies for the Next Generation of Accountants

Jeremy Thibodeaux, CPA, CFE • Ericksen Krentel • New Orleans, LA

While communication has rapidly changed with Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook, the accounting industry is on the cusp of facing its own seismic technological evolution, one that will forever impact – for the better – the skillsets that accountants will need to assist their clients in building more efficient and effective partnerships. That evolution will come in the form of several new technologies such as data analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. This session will focus on the changing role disrupter accountants will need to serve their clients in our rapidly evolving industry.
