Phishing: Some Dangerous Assumptions

In 2016 and 2017, Phishing was the top attack vector in the world. Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details for mostly malicious reasons. The attackers generally disguise as a trustworthy entity and use email spoofing to direct users to enter personal information on fake websites which look and feel almost identical to the legitimate websites

In this educational and entertaining talk, Mohamad Qayoom will share: (1) how users are reacting to sophisticated phishing attacks, (2) real-world phishing examples, and (3) best practices to protect users from phishing attacks.

Senator Bill Cassidy, MD

Dr. Bill Cassidy is the United States Senator for Louisiana.

Bill grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University (LSU) for undergraduate and Medical School.

For nearly three decades, Bill has provided care for uninsured and underinsured patients in Louisiana’s charity hospital system.

During this time, he co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic, a clinic providing free dental and health care to the working uninsured. Bill also created a private-public partnership to vaccinate 36,000 greater Baton Rouge area children against Hepatitis B at no cost to the schools or parents. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Bill led a group of health care volunteers to convert an abandoned K-Mart building into an emergency health care facility, providing basic health care to hurricane evacuees.

In 1990, Bill joined LSU Medical School teaching medical students and residents at Earl K. Long hospital, a hospital for the uninsured.

In 2006, Bill was elected to the Louisiana State Senate.

In 2008, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District. In the U.S. House, Bill served on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

In 2014, he was elected to the U.S. Senate. He serves on the Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP), Energy and Natural Resources, Finance, Veterans Affairs and Joint Economic Committees.

Bill is married to Dr. Laura Cassidy and they have three children. Laura is a retired general surgeon specializing in breast cancer. She helped found a public charter school to teach children with dyslexia. Bill, Laura and their family attend church at the Chapel on the Campus.

Mohamad has served on the board of University of New Orleans International Association where he was a member of the Student Success Committee.

The Louisiana based health system is comprised of four hospitals with multiple subsidiaries, over 300 employed physicians and several physician joint ventures. Prior to joining the System, he was the CFO of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, a subsidiary of FMOLHS. Prior to that, he was the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Doctors Hospital in Springfield, IL, which also employed several physicians and physician ownership.

Ramsey has 38 years of accounting/financial operations experience, of which, 36 have been healthcare related. He earned a BS, in Accountancy with a minor in Computer Science from Southern Illinois University and has completed class work for a MA in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Additionally, Ramsey is a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, and a Governance Fellow of the National Association Corporate Directors.

Active in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Ramsey is the past National Chairman of the Board of Examiners and a member of the Louisiana Chapter. He served on the Planning Committee for the Region 9 Conference and has been a member of the HFMA National Advisory Council and various other national committees. He is a past President of the McMahon-Illini Chapter, where he held various Officer, Director, and Committee positions. He has earned the Follmer Bronze, Reeves Silver, Muncie Gold Merit and Medal of Honor Awards with HFMA.

Jen Steele

Jen Steele has more than 20 years’ experience in health care policy and public finance at both the national and state level, including nonprofit advocacy, private foundation grant making, Legislative Fiscal Office, House Appropriations Committee, State Department of Health and Medicaid agency.

She began her career with the Louisiana Department of Health in 2001 working to align the budget with health policy priorities, including development of a proposal to extend Medicaid coverage to the population covered by Medicaid expansion today.

In 2006, she joined Louisiana Medicaid to manage a Robert Wood Johnson grant that became the WorkSmart! program for continuous process improvement, which helped Louisiana earn national recognition for Medicaid eligibility process simplification. Jen briefly served as Section Chief for Eligibility Field Operations before being tasked with leading the Department’s Health Care Reform Section formed in response to passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. In that capacity, she developed and implemented the Greater New Orleans Community Health Connection Medicaid Section 1115 Demonstration Waiver that continued the expansion of primary care access post-Katrina.

Since 2012, she has progressed through a series of managed care finance and budget positions, including Medicaid Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer, to her current position as Louisiana Medicaid Director.

Jen received her Bachelors in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and her Masters of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.
