Young CPA Board
Hi Everyone,
The Young CPA Board recently held our second meeting on August 22, 2007 in New Orleans. The meeting was very productive. Tom Hood, CEO and Executive Director of the Maryland Association of CPAs, was our facilitator for the meeting. He has worked with the New/Young Professionals Network of the Maryland Association of CPAs. With the help of Mr. Hood, we were able to determine the top six steps that we want to take over the next year to reach our goal of providing young CPAs the resources to maximize their potential in the profession.
The meeting started with introductions. We were then given a presentation from Mr. Hood titled “The High Performance CPA Firm & Next Generation CPAs.” This presentation talked about the trends and issues of our profession. We discussed differences between generations in the workplace and the issues that these differences create. It was a great starting point for our discussion about the professional issues of young CPAs.
After the presentation, we created our context map. As part of this context map, we came up with the key trends and issues facing the young CPAs of Louisiana. The needs we came up with include the need for networking skills, serving clients with new services, mentoring, encouragement to get involved, career path guidance, and community involvement.
We then moved on to list the priorities for the Young CPA board. We came up with six bold steps that we want to take within the next year to reach our vision of providing young CPAs the resources to maximize their potential in the profession. The six steps are as follows:
- Communication about the Young CPA Board to young CPAs
- Setup a Young CPA “Portal” - web and print
- Organize college and high school speaking engagements
- Encourage young CPA involvement through local events
- Outreach to and involvement with local LCPA chapters
- Charitable event
We assigned board members to the steps to help facilitate achieving our goals.
Each board member left the meeting with specific tasks to complete. We are very excited about the next year. We are confident that the Young CPA board can help young CPAs maximize their potential. We look forward to working with you in the future.
Please take a look at the attached document below (pdf) for more details of our meeting and and contact a member of the Young CPA Board with any questions, comments, or interest in helping us achieve our mission.
Regards,
