Background
The State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana
has existed since 1908. It is created by the Louisiana Accountancy
Act as a state agency within the Department of Economic Development.
Its seven members are Louisiana CPAs appointed by the governor
from a list of names submitted by the Society of Louisiana
CPAs.
Statutory Purposes of the State Board
The Louisiana Accountancy Act states that the board, in accordance
with the provisions and purposes of the Act, shall: Administer
and enforce the Act; Conduct the CPA exam; Grant and renew
individual certificates and firm permits; Set CPE and peer
review requirements; Take appropriate administrative actions
to regulate licenses; Adopt rules governing the conduct
of licenses; Take all action that is necessary and proper
to effectuate the purposes of the Act.
