LCPA Honors Members for Outstanding Service

The Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA) recently honored 13 members for their notable contributions to the CPA profession and the community. Awards were announced at LCPA's Annual Meeting in June and will be presented at upcoming events.

Stephanie Anderson, CPA, received LCPA's Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry Award to recognize her contributions in effectively utilizing her skills and competencies as a CPA to enhance the overall performance of her employer. Stephanie is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge.

William "Bill" Balhoff, CPA, CFF, CGMA, Managing Director and CEO of Postlethwaite & Netterville, received LCPA's 2016 Special Recognition Award for his service as 2013-14 Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Institute of CPAs, and for his overall efforts to the CPA profession. Bill also serves as an elected board member of the International Federation of Accountants.

Michael Bruno, CPA, received LCPA's Special Recognition Award for his service on the State Board of CPAs of Louisiana. He was first appointed to the State Board by Governor Kathleen Blanco in 2005, and later reappointed by Governor Bobby Jindal until his retirement from the Board in May 2016. Mike is a retired partner with the New Orleans CPA firm, Bruno and Tervalon, LLP, CPAs.

Mark P. Harris, CPA, received LCPA's Special Recognition Award for his service on the State Board of CPAs of Louisiana. He was first appointed to the State Board by Governor Murphy Foster in 1996, and then continued his service under Governor Kathleen Blanco and Governor Bobby Jindal until his retirement from the Board in May 2016. Mark is a partner in the Lafayette CPA firm Robideaux & Harris, APAC. Harris served as Chair of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy in 2011-12.

Grady Hazel, CPA, CGMA, received the Outstanding Discussion Leader Award. The award is presented annually to the Louisiana discussion leader based on number of hours taught, evaluations of participants, and overall quality of courses. Grady served as LCPA's Executive Director from 1996 to 2012. He was recently appointed by Governor Jon Bel Edwards to serve as a member at large on the State Board of CPAs of Louisiana.

J. Michael Inzina, CPA, CGFM, CGMA, received the Distinguished Service Award. Mike, who resides in Monroe, received the prestigious award to honor his outstanding, long-term commitment to the non-profit professional association and the CPA profession overall. He is a highly-regarded speaker and author on the topic of accounting and auditing standards. 

Jean Meyer, PhD, CPA, received the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award, presented annually to individuals who distinguish themselves as outstanding full-time accounting educators, participate in scholarly research, and contribute to professional organizations. Jean is a visiting assistant professor of accounting at Loyola University in New Orleans. 

Melvin Pechon, CPA, was honored with LCPA’s Life Membership Award to recognize his life-long contributions and service to LCPA and the CPA profession. His extensive volunteer service includes the elected position of LCPA President in 1983-84, as well as involvement in many of the association's committees. He is a partner in the Metairie CPA firm Pechon & Pechon, L.L.C., CPAs.

Robert Perez, CPA,
was honored with a Life Membership Award to recognize the generous contribution of his time and knowledge of federal taxation issues to improve the competency of CPAs.  A highly regarded speaker for more than 20 years, Bob is a three-time recipient of the Society's Outstanding Discussion Leader Award. He is the sole member of the New Orleans CPA firm Robert L. Perez, LLC.  

Austin G. Robertson Jr., CPA, ABV, CFF, CFP, CVA, PFS, CGMA,
received the Life Membership Award to recognize his outstanding contributions to the CPA profession and the community. Austin is founder of Robertson, Bailes & McClelland, LLP and is currently of counsel to the firm Cole, Evans & Peterson. He is a past LCPA president.

Michael Tham CPA,
received both a Special Recognition Award and  Life Membership Award. Mike was honored for his service on the State Board of CPAs of Louisiana, having served on the Board since 1989, and as chair for the past thirteen years. He was likewise honored with the Life Membership Award to recognize extensive record of achievement to benefit the future of CPAs throughout Louisiana. 

Candace "Candy" Wright, CPA, CFF, a Director with Postlethwaite & Netterville's Accounting and Assurance Services Group, received the Distinguished Service Award. The prestigious award honors Candy's dedication to the CPA profession, including her current service as the 2016 Chair of the Private Company Council. Candy speaks frequently both on a state and national level on the topic of audit and accounting issues focusing on private company financial statements.

Joseph Zanco, CPA
, the CFO of Home Bank in Lafayette, received the AICPA/LCPA Distinguished Public Service Award. The award is the highest honor for public service leadership, impact, involvement and innovation of a Louisiana CPA. Joe will now be nominated for the American Institute of CPAs’ National Public Service Award. 

LCPA (lcpa.org) is a non-profit professional association serving more than 7,000 current and future CPAs statewide. It is the premier organization of accountants in the state.
