Committees: 2017-18 Emerging CPA Council

Mission of the Emerging CPA Council:
To Engage, Connect, Promote, and Aspire new CPAs and future CPAs.

Objectives:

  • To establish LCPA’s Emerging CPA Council as a well-known, well-respected organization to members and the public alike 
  • To engage active and non-active new CPAs of all ages and demonstrate the benefits of involvement on both the state and chapter level, with the goal of maintaining membership
  • To identify and foster future leaders who help to move our association forward
  • To create an ECPA Community that provides support and guidance to new CPAs, future CPAs, individuals of any age reentering the workforce or transitioning to a careers in accounting, active CPAs in other states interested in returning to Louisiana
  • To utilize the LCPA’s website and social media outlets to connect new CPAs, students and other professional groups
  • To promote the CPA brand and the profession in order to increase membership among CPAs and future CPAs, as well as non-accounting majors
  • To identify educational and social opportunities to help ECPAs grow professionally and personally
  • To collaborate with other LCPA committees or task forces with similar target groups to maximize effectiveness (e.g. Career Awareness, Accounting Education Issues, Financial Literacy, Strategic Planning, and local and state Boards of Directors)
  • To build strong relationships with accounting faculty and department heads, as well as Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapters, National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) chapters, and other accounting-related student organizations

Goals:

  • Host an annual, statewide event to connect targeted groups. Event could be a social or competitive sporting event and have a fundraising component (e.g. raise scholarship money for CPA Exam Review Courses).  Event could rotate chapters each year, or chapters could bid to host event; all chapters help to promote it.
  • Host local events in cooperation with chapters to connect targeted groups, including resurgence of Exam Passer, social events connected to CPE
  • Establish and maintain online community groups for new CPAs, exam candidates, accounting majors
  • To have a presence on local chapter boards to represent the ECPAs’ needs and concerns
  • Promote ECPA activities to the media to raise community awareness

Structure:
The Emerging CPA Council is comprised of 1 Chair, 1 representative from each of LCPA’s 9 chapters, Past Chair (advisory role). There also will be 1 LCPA Student Liaison (appointed by the CEO and 1 LCPA Staff Liaison to assist the ECPA Council in its efforts.

Council Terms & Selection:
ECPA Council members serve a 2-year term, with an option to serve an additional 2-year term if there are no objections by the current Council Chair or CEO. Council members are limited to 2 terms (4 years), unless selected to serve as Chair during or at the end of a second 2-year term (6 year maximum). The CEO shall have the ability to review and approve exceptions to the above term limits.
