In recent versions of Excel, you can create and customize elements with fewer clicks and dialog boxes to aid in producing professional quality charts and visual elements to incorporate into Excel-based dashboards. This course serves to provide a summary overview of charting and other visual element functions and tools in Excel and then to offer a “deep dive” into advanced charting techniques that are especially useful in dashboard settings.

Objectives

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Differentiate between the various categories of charts in Excel and determine which type of chart is best for a communication need
  • Create charts and modify chart elements to customize and improve charts
  • Add analytic elements such as trendlines to charts to improve their usefulness
  • Create PivotCharts to assist in reporting and analyzing potentially large volumes of data
  • List various dashboard-specific charting techniques and use these techniques in concert with other Excel features discussed in this course to build dashboards
