At a time when intellectual capital comprises about 45% of the market value of United States industries (What Ideas are Worth, Hassett, 2011), and 84% of the market value of S&P 500 businesses (Ocean Tomo, LLC, January 1, 2015) a good foundational knowledge of intellectual property law is beneficial, if not necessary, for practicing CPAs, even those who do not have "high-tech” companies as clients.

This program will include a brief review of the major categories of IP law, including Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, and Trade Secrets, followed by a review of specific IP issues especially relevant to accountants.

Meet the Speaker:

Charles G. Holoubek, JD, MBA
Davis & Bujold, PLLC, Global IP Law • Shreveport, LA

Charles is a Shreveport-based, USPTO Registered Patent Attorney with the New England intellectual property law firm Davis & Bujold, PLLC Global IP Law. His practice focuses exclusively on federal intellectual property, and provides full-service intellectual property counseling and advocacy to businesses and individuals in the United States and around the world.

Charles is a former Chair of the Intellectual Property section of the New Hampshire Bar Association. He is a frequent lecturer and author on issues concerning intellectual property matters, and has presented and published on Patent, Trademark, Copyright, and other intellectual property issues to legal and non-legal audiences around the country.

He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at LSUS, just completed presenting a year-long lecture series on business and legal aspects of Biomedical Innovation at LSU Health Science Center Shreveport, and works with the La Start Up Prize to help innovative entrepreneurs strategically position themselves with regard to their intellectual property.
