Learn about the types of qualified retirement plans, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of plan, when each retirement plan is appropriate, and Traditional v. Roth Contributions Tax-Efficient Investments outside of Qualified Plans.

About the Speakers:
Dan attended Loyola University New Orleans. In 2007, he graduated from Loyola University New Orleans, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a double major in Finance and International Business. At graduation he was presented with The World Trade Center Outstanding International Business Graduate award. After graduating from Loyola in 2007, Dan began his career in the financial services industry at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in Houston. For the first year he worked as an analyst, monitoring clients’ asset allocation, analyzing investments in client portfolios, and presenting investment recommendations to clients. In 2008, while still at Merrill Lynch, Dan became a financial advisor and was responsible for providing investment recommendations to high net-worth individuals across a broad spectrum of products based on clients’ individual risk tolerance and investment needs. In 2012, Dan joined the Lake Charles office of Financial Management Professionals as a financial advisor. Dan obtained the Certified Financial PlannerTM designation in 2011. Dan is currently a Level III Candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst Program, a highly respected credential in the financial services industry.
John Hixson, CFP®
A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, John graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor of business administration degree in 1983 and earned a masters degree with a concentration in financial planning from Georgia State University in 1984. After graduation, he worked with Magnolia Financial Corporation, whose business included the acquisition and operation of insurance companies and funeral homes in 14 states. As a member of Magnolia’s Board of Directors, John gained valuable insight into the financial services industry. His experience has included: company valuation and acquisition; investment planning and evaluation; financial statement analysis; life and health insurance product development and sales; and estate and charitable tax planning. In addition to his responsibilities with Magnolia Financial, John served as a General Partner and Investment Advisor to Hixson Properties, a real estate and investment company. He also received the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 1988 from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In 1993, at Milton’s & Kevin’s invitation, John became a partner at Financial Management Professionals to better serve the increasing clientele. In 1995, John received the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification from the CFP Board of Standards. In 1997, he was one of the first advisors in the country to receive the Fee-Only professional designation from the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.
Betty A. Raglin
Betty is a Board Certified Specialist in Tax Law and Estate Planning and Administration by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, AV Rated by Martindale- Hubble, and a member of Sigler & Raglin, Attorneys at Law (A Professional L.L.C.) in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A native of Silsbee, Texas, she received her Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University Law Center in 2001, and the degree of Master of Laws in Taxation from Southern Methodist University in 2002. She was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2001, and admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court in 2002. Betty is a Member of the House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association; is the Immediate Past President of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association; and serves on the board of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Foundation. Her primary practice areas include taxation, business planning, and estate planning and administration. She is a co-author, beginning with the 2010-2011 Supplement, of "Estate Planning in Louisiana” (Thomson West, 1991). She is a member of the now-forming Louisiana Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
