Continuing Professional Education Committee
Committee Structure & Function
The CPE Committee shall consist of no more than 13 members. The Society Treasurer shall serve as the committee’s Board Coordinator. The Society Executive Director, CPE Manager and CPE Coordinator shall serve as ex-officio members.
The Committee Chair shall be appointed by the President-Elect from among members of the committee. The Committee Chair shall serve as a member of the Society Budget Committee. The Chairman or a designated representative of the Industry Committee and Computer Education Subcommittee should also be appointed to the CPE Committee, in addition to the regular 13 members.
Appropriate experience, proven ability, enthusiasm and interest in this area shall be a major consideration in making appointments to the CPE Committee. Only after this should emphasis be placed upon geographic distribution, and the varied employment areas (i.e., industry, public practice, education, government, etc.).
The procedures of the Continuing Professional Education Committee are to:
1. Oversee and approve the CPE program for the ensuing year. Review and approve a CPE budget for submission to the Budget Committee.
2. Submit reports as requested by the Budget Committee, including comparison of actual and budgeted expenditures and evaluation of results of the continuing professional education program at the end of each fiscal year.
3. Suggest desired course subjects and improvement of existing courses to the AICPA, and other CPE vendors. Consider the use of courses developed by other sources and determine and recommend criteria as to what constitutes acceptable and meaningful continuing professional education. To pursue and coordinate the development of appropriate new CPE courses which meet the needs of the membership.
4. Consult with the staff as required to assure effective functioning of the planned program.
5. Approve for submission to the Board of Directors all policies and procedures for all CPE registration and participation.
6. To consult with and solicit the advice from those individuals with technical expertise regarding specific CPE programs.
7. To provide guidance and assistance on the development of chapter CPE programs and to assure that they are properly documented and reported to the Society regional conferences.
8. To approve a standard contract for CPE vendors and instructors.
9. To determine candidates for CPE Discussison Leader Award.
10. To monitor the development of alternate CPE delivery systems and activities of related and ancillary organizations which produce CPE materials, report developments to the board of directors and make recommendations to enhance delivery of CPE products to members, when appropriate.
CPE Chapter Procedures:
1. Plan and promote an active CPE program to serve the needs of the Society members. Committee members are responsible for aiding the course selection process and coordinating the CPE program to be sponsored by the Society at the chapter level.
2. Assist in promotion of attendance by mailings, announcements, news articles, personal contact and telephone activity if necessary.
3. Provide liaison and channeling communications between the chapter and Society staff on all CPE matters.
4. Make certain CPE course documentation is compiled and forwarded to the Society office.
Annual Meeting Technical Programs
In coordination with the Annual Meeting Committee, approve technical sessions for the annual meeting that are timely and meet the needs of the membership.
